Organizing Your Laundry
The never-ending cycle of laundry. The more children you have...the more dirty laundry is created. Some helpful tips I have learned over the years are:
** do at least one load of laundry every day
** keep a basket for knick-knacks and container for change on your dryer
** hanging clean laundry out on clotheslines can save you a lot of money
** pajamas can be worn more than once
You may have seen all kinds of laundry room organization on pinterest and other blogs. I have seen many laundry basket dressers where the baskets hang on side holders (like THIS). While that does work...it has been my experience that these laundry baskets can break easily. I didn't feel they would hold up well with the weight of laundry in them.
To remedy this, my husband made me one where the baskets actually sit on shelves. I absolutely love it and have been using it for a couple years now. It has worked beautifully for us and keeps everything neatly contained between washings.
I also love making my own laundry soap. Here is the recipe for it (from my homemaking binder):
It is a wonderful, inexpensive, easy way to clean your dirty laundry! For a detailed DIY tutorial on making your own laundry soap you can go HERE.
Laundry only seems like a tiresome chore when it gets out of hand or overwhelming. When you keep up with it and keep it organized...it really isn't burdensome (getting my children to put their clean clothes away in their drawers neatly is a whole 'nother issue!)!

Katy I love the new blog. I too make my own laundry detergent and it is similar to your recipe but I use Ivory soap in my version, because my family has some allergies and this helps keep them at bay and it cleans our clothes well.Your right the more children you have the more you have to wash laundry. I have five plus my husband and I which makes for a lot of loads of laundry lol.
ReplyDeleteI have read your other blog for years and I am really looking forward to this one!!!
ReplyDeleteI am the one who asked about getting organized the other day and you made a post on your planner. I got a planner and love it! Like I said, so looking forward to your upcoming post!

Wondering if you could share how your husband built the laundry basket holder...looking to make something similar for the same reason (laundry baskets tend to break especially when full of laundry!) Thanks. Katie from WI
